How to convert a metric recipe to US measurements

Updated 19 October 2026 · 2 min read

Short answer

Divide grams by 28.35 to get ounces and millilitres by 29.57 to get fluid ounces. For oven temperatures, multiply °C by 9/5 and add 32. Turning grams of flour into cups needs a known density, so a kitchen scale set to ounces is the most reliable option.

Rounded to two decimals.
MetricUS
100 g3.53 oz
250 g8.82 oz
500 g17.64 oz
1 kg35.27 oz
100 ml3.38 fl oz
250 ml8.45 fl oz
500 ml16.91 fl oz
1 l33.81 fl oz

What about cups?

Going from grams to cups means guessing how dense the ingredient is. Recepti does not guess in either direction: metric volumes become fluid ounces and metric weights become ounces. If you want cups for staples, use the cups to grams chart in reverse.

Temperatures

See the full oven temperature chart. Quick ones: 180°C is about 350°F, 200°C is about 400°F, 220°C is about 425°F.
